Kick-Off

Ok..I know...I know...you probably thinking "Not another football blog". Well there can never be too many blogs about football. You see, football is a team sport comprising 11 players all with different skills and abilities. They all see the game from a different perspective which means they will all react in varying ways at any given time in a match. That same thing exists within supporters, fans or whatever the hell you wanna call us. We all watch exactly the same match, yet if you ask us to write a 100 word essay on a match we just witnessed, chances are we will give you very diverse analysis.

Usually our "analysis" is influenced by the teams we support, players we hate and those we love to hate. It is very hard to be objective in our analysis of the game, teams, players, coaches and administrators. Mind you I said it is very hard, but I did not say it is impossible. It is very possible...yes?? I think so. Well...at least I think it is if you are willing to try. One thing I will promise you is that I will do my best to try and be as objective as I can be.

How did this blog came to be? Well my three friends (Rudolph, Sithembiso and Cheslin) and I have a whatsapp group called Diski 101 where we discuss football related matters. Of course every now and then we discuss girls, cars, girls, work, girls and did I mention girls??? But that's every now and then. Mostly and I would assume 75% of the time, we discuss football. Now the discussions are usually fun but the banter is intense. You see Chez is a Man United and Real Madrid fan, Rudi is an Arsenal and Real Madrid Fan - Rudi is a big Jose Mourinho fan and thus has a soft spot for Chelsea. Which is weird for an Arsenal supporter. But he is a Gooner. Sthe is a Barcelona and Arsenal fan. Me I am an Arsenal fan. I also like Barcelona. Note that I have not given the guys' favorite local teams because I know they are going to be contributing a lot to this blog. becaue of that, I think it is only fair that our preferred local teams remain anonymous. Back to the question..How did this blog come to be? They guys seem to like my analysis of players, especially, and they keep saying I need to "apply for a job at SABC 1 and replace David Kekana" so I decided maybe a blog is a first place to start. I hope you will enjoy the writes, not only from me but also from my Diski 101 friends. I can promise you that we will not hold back the same way we don't on the whatsapp and emails chats. Football fans aren't supposed to be nice.

You will notice that I keep referring to soccer as football. No, I'm not going to bore you with the "soccer is an American term" BS (which it is). I just like the term football. But call it what you want....just watch it.

Different major leagues around the world are at the end of their cycle and so this blog will really get going in the beginning of the 2015/16 season. That doesn't mean we will be quiet until then. There will still be some activity until the end of the season as well as during the transfer window. On that note congratulations to Kaizer Chiefs and Chelsea F.C for their PSL and EPL championships respectively. Those 2 championships plus the Uefa & CAF Champions League and International matches will form the basis of this blog. Also congratulations to my beloved Gunners on reaching their successive FA Cup Final.

In our next feature I will formally introduce you to my three teammates and we will review players at the Uefa Champions League semi-finals and preview the finals.

Do enjoy your weekend. There's still some football for the next 2 weeks so make the most of it.

  1. What an atmosphere it was at the Nelson Mandela bay as we wrapped the season, arguable the biggest Championship crowning of our time. How I wish such can be witnessed on every match day in the PSL, I think it was a proud moment for the PSL & their sponsors, and thanks to the People of Nelson Mandela Metro for making it that beautiful, now we wait once again for them to bring the spark in the Nedbank cup final

  2. Yeah it was. Let's hope for more of the same, crowd wise, next season. I hear there's still tickets available for that match. I think if the tickets are not sold by Friday, they should give them out for free to schoolkids around the area.
